Meet the Morado Team

Ash Patel

Founding Partner 

A Morado co-founder, Ash Patel brings more than 15 years of Internet experience to Morado. A long-time product and engineering leader with Yahoo! Inc., Ash most recently served as the company’s Chief Technology Evangelist. He began his journey with Yahoo! in the early days of the Internet, joining the company’s engineering department in 1996.

While at Yahoo!, Ash held a number of positions, including Senior Vice President of Platform Engineering, Chief Product Officer, and Executive Vice President of the Audience Platform Division. In his early days at the company, Ash built My Yahoo!, registration and login platforms, and the back-end infrastructure for Yahoo! Finance. Later he developed the back end for Yahoo! Messenger, eventually building the team that launched the product. Over ten years, Ash scaled his engineering team to include approximately 1,500 engineers. Together, Ash and his team scaled Yahoo!’s infrastructure and products to handle hundreds of millions of users and their data.

Ash earned a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Kings College of the University of London.

Mike Marquez

Founding Partner

Morado co-founder Mike Marquez has a track record of launching successful ventures, and he enjoys playing a role in building strong teams. He brings a broad range of experience with business development, M&A transactions, and new media and Internet strategy development to Morado.

Prior to co-founding Morado and CODE Advisors, Mike served as Executive Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development for CBS Interactive, where he was responsible for all business and corporate development globally. Prior to CBS Interactive, he was a senior executive in the corporate development team at Yahoo!, where he worked closely with Ash Patel and other senior executives on a number of acquisitions.

Mike earned a B.S. in Managerial Economics from the University of California at Davis, and an M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Patrick McGill

Corporate Venture Partner

Patrick brings to Morado a depth of global corporate venture, investment and M&A expertise working closely with innovative Fortune 1000 corporations, early stage firms and VC’s. He successfully advised and launched Best Buy’s Digital Media fund (partnership with Fuse Capital), DoCoMo Capital, Telefonica Ventures and worked with Volkswagen Group on new innovation strategies. Patrick has a special relationship with Dentsu Inc, one of the worlds leading advertising firms assisting them with strategic alliances/investments.

Previously he was the Corporate Venture Partner for Fuse Capital. Earlier in his career, Patrick was VP Corporate Development for Verifone playing an active role in their acquisition by HP for $1.2BN. A huge music fan, Patrick was an early advisor to Pandora Media (Nasdaq: P). Medstory (Acquired MSFT), PIXO (Acquired Sun Microsystems) and Basis (Acquired Intel).

Prior to his technology career, Patrick was specially trained by British Airways as an Airport Manager and lived and worked in over 12 countries.

Henry Sohn

Operating Partner

Henry has over 20 years of experience in the technology industry spanning product, general management, operations and strategy. He joined Yahoo!'s product team in 1996 and was one of Yahoo!'s earliest employees.

Most recently, he served as Vice President, Business Operations at DataTorrent, Inc. Prior positions include Chief of Staff & VP Business Management to CTO at Yahoo!, Chief Product Officer, Flurry, Inc., VP Gateway.com, Vice President & General Manager of Front Doors & Central Services, Yahoo!.

Henry holds a degree in Sociology from UC Berkeley.
